Project
Kafka MirrorMaker 2 replication
Cross-cluster Kafka replication with MirrorMaker 2, deployed on Kubernetes with generated configuration and runtime secrets.
What it is
Cross-cluster Kafka replication using MirrorMaker 2, deployed and operated on Kubernetes.
Why it exists
Some workloads need data available in more than one place, whether for locality or resilience. MirrorMaker 2 gives a supported way to keep topics replicated between clusters without writing custom consumers.
How it works
- MirrorMaker 2 instances run on Kubernetes.
- Configuration is generated rather than maintained by hand.
- Secrets are injected at runtime, so credentials aren’t baked into images or config in the repo.
- Kustomize overlays handle per-environment differences.
- Replication is monitored for lag and health.
Notes
- Most of the work is in the operational details: configuration correctness, secret handling, and knowing what “healthy replication” actually looks like.
- See the draft write-up.
